Southern Illinois Mustang Association Celebrates 29th Anniversary
June 15, 2006 marked the 29th Anniversary of the Southern Illinois Mustang Association. The inaugural meeting was held at Belk park at Wood River, IL. Since then over 325 SIMA members have praised the Mustang tradition. Members have enthusiastically promoted our beloved pony car by holding picnics, shows, car washes, swap meets, rallies and tours. High performance Mustangs excelled (accelerated) at the Drag strip as well as on the street. SIMA Caravans were formed to travel to National and Regional Mustang shows. SIMA was well represented when they showed, whether at home or across the borders.
Our 29th Anniversary Mustang car show & swap meet was held at Roberts Ford in Alton, IL on July 14 & 15th. We have been recently saddened by the loss of 2 long time SIMA members, Bill Lauck & John Hall. The 2006 show was dedicated to Bill Lauck who has served SIMA since 1978. The show also recognized our founder and life member, Terry Yates, who has been fighting lung cancer.
We had a few less Show cars than last year. The weather is normally hot at our annual show, and this year was hot, hot, hot with lots of sunshine. It was especially fun to see lots of new vehicles come to the show this year. We give special kudos and thanks to the Stallions Mustang club of St. Louis and the Show-Me Mustang club of St. Louis. Also special kudos and thanks to all who helped judge and work at this years show.
We awarded the 2nd Annual SIMA High School to College scholarship to JoAnna Vinson, daughter of SIMA members, Jeff and Theresa Vinson. Kudos to Larry Roberts for the following pics.
