2005 Spring Cruise to Meramec Caverns

Spring Cruise 2005

SIMA’s Spring Cruise has come and gone and what a great time for all.  After a week of rain being forecasted all day on Saturday April 30, we lucked out for one of the most beautiful days of the year.  The day started around 8am at the Alton Rehab center where Heidi Todd had coffee and a great variety of energy calorie feeling donuts awaiting for us all.  So much for the LYB club!  After waiting for all to arrive and shooting the breeze we saddled up the ponies for the fast, fun and furious ride to Meramec Caverns.

As we approached warp speed, we all keep together down Route 3 to Route 270, and eventually Route 44.  We didn’t stop until we got to a rest area about 7 miles from Meramec Caverns.  We let the ponies rest and all the riders stretched their legs, got refreshed, and before we knew it we were hot on the trail again.  Zero to 90 in a flash!

Finally we arrived at Meramec caverns and decided to tie up the ponies down by the river.  Boy did they all look good.  All 11 of them!  We proceeded towards the cavern and decided a group picture would be nice.  Luckily a nice Meramec Cavern’s employee took our group picture.  It turned out great.

Upon entering the entrance we all gathered at the admissions desk and collected all the funds for the tour.  All 21 ½  of us went on the tour.  The ½ being our 3 year old Logan.  Got to say we all got our exercise.

After the tour we spent some time in the gift shop before saddling up the ponies and heading off to the Du Kum Inn Restaurant.  We all ate together at a big table and boy was the food good.  Jack had a great idea for the place to eat!

Finally it was that time to head home back to the stables.  Boy again were those ponies off to the races and bound for home.  You would think they were all hunger and headed to get the hay in the manger!  As we rounded the corner and over the hills at about Mach 2, we about made it home altogether before a rider had the urge to purge.  Upon a Mach 1 exit on two wheels we lost a few ponies in the gang, but they all knew the way home.

It was a great time for all and now on to planning our other great events of 2005!
